Cloud CRM Goes Green

As the whole world suffers from global warming and most countries and major corporations try to reduce carbon dioxide, we find that some amongst many Cloud CRM vendors has directed their attention to the issue in hand. In 2007 it was reported that the number of trees being cut down for industrial usage ranges from 3 billion to 6 billion trees per year. Some Cloud CRM vendors have started on internal projects to cut down on paper usage and others chose to plant more trees in their offices and campuses.

Many could miss out the fact that by implementing Cloud CRM in their business, they are actually reducing paper usage and helping out with saving the trees. Imagine how many notebooks a sales representative would use in a month, writing down contacts and keeping important info as it was once done. Computers have helped in the reducing process already and there is no denial to that but the fact that one can use CRM on the go or in over the internet Cloud means even less paper usage and less hardware upgrades and specifications.

On premises CRM requires specific hardware implementations which lead to purchasing more parts and machines for data storage and processing. On the other hand, Cloud CRM allows data processing and storage on data centers and remote servers which are located in certain areas and places according to state laws which means less pollution in heavily populated areas. This also reduces direct and intensive exposure of magnetic waves that harms the environment as well as humans. This way Cloud CRM proves to be more environmental friendly than on premises CRM.

As previously mention, many attempts of going green are worthy of mentioning. Here are two examples on how major as well as mid-sized Cloud CRM vendors try to go green, each on their own way:

The latest step towards a green work-space is Salesforce.com’s new San Francisco campus. Salesforce.com has purchased nearly 2 million square-foot campus over 14 acres at Mission Bay. Salesforce.com will include in the new Headquarters some public waterfront park land, which is a city requirement. Details about percentage of the green space are not yet announced. Hopefully they would have as much green as possible to help out with global warming and save the trees projects.

Previous successful attempts in reducing and even ending once and for all paper usage at offices have been recorded as early as 2004. For instance; Salesboom.com has adopted a no-paper policy in their offices one year after launching their product in 2003. Rami Hamouda president and cofounder said “it is time to use CRM for the greater good of humanity not only as a business tool”. Such attempts are what we all need in order to save our planet and hand it over to next generations to prosper and enjoy.
